"This was the first piece I created in the summer of 1999. It was created intuitively, and so it was only natural that the final result would be very open to interpretation. The bird can mean protection, comfort, or healing. As I created it, I was thinking about the idea of fragility and how sometimes we need to heal our inner selves—our souls. A bird is so fragile and vulnerable... a metaphor for our inner feelings. This piece helped define Willow Tree." -Susan Lordi
